BA (Hons) Mission and Ministry

Cliff College has been delivering innovative and inspiring degree programmes in mission and ministry for 20 years. We specialise in courses focused on youth, children and family mission and ministry, approved by and leading to an award of the University of Manchester.

Mission Ministry Student youth children family

This programme offers an HE Certificate in the areas of youth, children and family ministry, with an opportunity to continue study at HE Diploma and BA (Hons) levels. All of these can be studied full-time or part-time, and are all validated by The University of Manchester. This fully flexible degree course brings theology and practice together to equip you to work within both the church and wider community.

Teaching is delivered through intensive teaching weeks by Cliff College faculty and visiting lecturers. There is nothing more inspiring than learning from expert thinkers and practitioners, alongside others who share your passion for mission and ministry to youth, children and family. Cliff College offers this in some of the most beautiful surroundings in the UK.

Reflection on practice is a key element of the course. Students are therefore required to be involved in some kind of regular youth, children or family mission or ministry. This practice can be in a voluntary or paid capacity, or a mixture of both, and should comprise a minimum of 60 hours per year.

As a practitioner, I feel that this programme has equipped me with the right skills to have a meeting with my leadership team and it has given me insightful thoughts which I will put to use in my practice.

The course is transforming my thinking – and as a result my practice.

Teaching around the theological background to what we do was really helpful, and brought about a lot of points to consider. I am at the beginning of a journey, and that has been the major impact: realising there is a lot to learn and consider.

Mission Ministry students classroom

Our courses are designed to equip and enable reflective practitioners in the areas of youth, children and family ministry. We understand the needs of people who are great at what they do, and want to know more, but might lack confidence academically. We also love to stretch the high flyers and encourage their research into new insights in the field.

All teaching is delivered by our experienced faculty or expert practitioners in your field of study (youth, children or family). In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn alongside a cohort of students involved in mission and ministry similar to your own.

Each student has the support of a personal tutor, and guidance is given during the teaching week on how to approach the assignments.

With a mixture of full- and part-time students on the Mission and Ministry programme, we work hard to build a supportive community for all our students. Our students often comment on the benefits of the retreat-like atmosphere of the teaching weeks. These include worship, Bible teaching and devotions, as well as the opportunity to laugh and have fun!

Part-time students will be required to complete an online Study Skills unit as they start the course. All other units at Level 4 (Certificate of Higher Education), Level 5 (Diploma of Higher Education) and Level 6 (BA (Hons)) are delivered via teaching weeks (Mon-Fri) on site at Cliff College.

Open Access

This is an open access programme. Our standard entry requirements are 72 UCAS tariff points, but applicants without such qualifications are very welcome to apply and may be able to demonstrate their ability to be successful on this programme in other ways. Each year students come with a variety of qualifications. Our strong study skills and other support programmes enable those with a broad range of prior achievement to be academically successful and graduate with an award of The University of Manchester.
